There are number of barometers available in the market. One has the option to choose the barometer of their choice depending on the purpose they want for. Basically a barometer is a glass tube from which air is removed and mercury is inserted. At the eath’s surface the air pressure pushes up the mercury approximately to 30 inches. Some of the prominent features of a barometer are:
- A barometer can calculate the pressure exercised by the atmosphere by using various elements like air, water or mercury.
- It can forecast diminutive term changes in the weather.
- A barometer can function as an altimeter to measure the atmospheric changes above the sea level.
- If the barometer stands above 30, the air must be dry, cold, or both and rain is not expected.
- It represents various characteristic of the weather. For example, the rising mercury in the barometer reflects a fine weather, whereas when the mercury is in the sinking state it signifies that the foul weather is near.
- Similarly, fall or rise or an unsettled barometer denotes the changes in the atmosphere.
In short, the barometer represents the changes in the atmospheric pressure, which helps us in determining easy forecast of the weather and help us in overcoming diasters in an easy way.
